The age at which a Thai girlfriend can apply for a UK marriage visa will change to 21 years from the earlier 18 years. This new visa law will being from the 27th November 2008.

Not only will the Thai girlfriend have to be 21 or over before she can apply for the visa, the UK boyfriend will also have to be at least 21 years of age. At the time of issuing the new visa guidelines the UK government explained that “This is part of the governments work to crackdown on forced marriage and on those who attempt to abuse the UK marriage visa route.”

UK Immigration and Border Security
The immigration and border security rules haven’t change much in the last 45 years. This is only a small part of the changes and measures the UK government are takings.
The UK Immigration minister Phil Woolas stated “”It is important that we protect vulnerable young people and this measure will help avoid exploitation”.
