A UK Fiancee visa will allow your Thai girlfriend to travel to the UK for a period of up to 6 months. Within this time you are able to marry and then update the visa to a UK Settlement visa without your Thai wife returning to Thailand.

If your Thai girlfriend has not been to visit you before in the UK, it is a big mistake to apply for a Fiancee visa first. In effect you are stating to the British embassy that you have known your Thai girlfriend in holiday situations only, but never the less you both feel that you are ready to commit the rest of your lifes to living in the UK, even though she has not experienced the British weather, culture and you in such different surroundings.

It will also quicken the time for her to be able to return to Thailand. Normally when returning from the UK on a tourist visa, she would have to wait for six months before applying for a new visa, but with a Fiancee visa this is not the case. It is possible that your Thai girlfriend can apply for a fiancée visa the day she returns to Thailand.
