To renew a British passport from within Thailand it now has to be done now through their passport regional center which is based in Liverpool, United Kingdom. The application has to be sent via DHL to Liverpool which is then checked and After this is completed they arrange for DHL to deliver it back to Thailand. The whole process can be very messy trying to do it by yourself.
At Key Visa Company we are renewing client’s passports all the time and take all the hassle away from the client. The only thing they have to do is sign the application form and then the passport is sent to your full Thailand postal address.
Please don’t panic, you don’t send your original passport to Liverpool as you should not be in Thailand without having your passport, we only send a photocopy of the passport in color. You keep hold of your old passport and when the new passport arrives you cut the corners off your old passport.
It takes approximately 4-6 weeks to be returned from the IPS in Liverpool so give yourself time if visas are due to be renewed. We have given details below on our services for the application for the new passport.
- You come to our office with your original passport
- You also bring two passport photographs with a brilliant white background or light grey
- We then copy your passport in color all pages and fill in the form with you present and you sign the application form
- You then fill in the passport payment form by credit or debit card and pay us a 2,000 baht service charge
- We then send everything to Liverpool to the Regional passport office via DHL
- The new passport is then sent back to your home in Thailand via DHL from the UK
You Must also supply something that proves your address in Thailand with your name and address like UK bank statements with your Thai address or pension form etc if your only proof is in Thai we can accept but must charge 500bht to do a certified translation.
So Passport, 2 x photographs and residence proof in Thailand.
If you have visas obtained from Thai consulates overseas then your visas are still valid and you just carry both passports with you.
British Passport renewal delays
Since the new system was introduced approximately 4 weeks ago there seems to be no end of problems with documents required and the passport office sending e-mails to applicants requesting new or up to date documents which can make delays in the processing and also them sending from Liverpool in the UK.
Please make sure when you send an application form you make sure it is filled in correctly and also the credit card form please make sure this is also filled in correctly and your details are correct.
Make sure you now send a full copy of your passport every page in color even if 48 pages
You must also send something in Thailand which confirms your full postal address including your name and address in English e.g. pension statement, work letter UK bank statements with your Thai address on,
If you only have things like Thai utility bills then make sure they are translated into English before you send as people in Liverpool cannot read Thai, they also will no longer send to a third party address in Thailand only to your home or postal address in Thailand.
Please take these rules on board and give yourselves at least 6 month prior to your passport expiring before you apply in case of any delays the current waiting time can be 4-6 weeks.
If you require prices, please contact our office on +66 (0)38 422131 as the British passport prices are constantly changing. We will show reservations and because we only charge a small service charge will not allow ourselves to be put under pressure.
